Mount Kinabalu

Ranau is a town and district on the central west coast of Sabah in East Malaysia, the primary gateway to Poring Hot Springs from KK or Mount Kinabalu (from east coast). A stronghold of Kadazandusun people, the largest indigenous group in North Borneo, Ranau is located about 110km away from the city along the east coast highway to Sandakan - a peaceful and friendly environment against a backdrop of Mount Kinabalu's eastern crest. The town's name originates from 'Ranahon', a native term for its paddy fields that fill the valley. Of late, Ranau has become a hotspot for paragliding activity while the outskirts feature Rafflesia flowers growing in private farms open to visitors.
